









Places to visit whilst in Portugal
Albufeira
Originally a fishing village, now a picturesque tourist resort known as the “St Tropez” of the Algarve
Cape St Vincent
Europe’s furthest south westerly point featuring the largest lighthouse in Europe. Steep cliffs plunging into the Atlantic Ocean where you can see fishermen literally clinging to the rock face.
Carvoeiro
Once a small fishing village situated just east of Portimao. Fantastic beaches with caves and tunnels featuring the Algar Seco rock formation which is well worth a visit.
Faro
Administrative capital of the Algarve. The cathedral and old town are worth a visit whilst enjoying the shopping along Rua St Antonio.
Lagos
Very pretty market town, once the capital of the Algarve. There are good shops, restaurants and café’s. It is a fishing port with old town walls, museum and church. You can hire a small fishing boat for a guided trip around the grottos.
Marina Do Vilamoura
For boat lovers and anyone who enjoys a cosmopolitan atmosphere and lots of activity. Numerous shops, restaurants, bars, and discos. Most aquatic sports catered for here including fishing trips and coastal cruises. Close at hand are the interesting ruins of a Roman settlement discovered during the excavation for the marina. A great place to eat, drink, and watch the world go by.
Monchique
Choose a clear day and take the A22 towards Lisbon & Portimao at exit 5 follow the signpost to Monchique. Caldas de Monchique, just before Monchique itself is an attractive spa town. As you approach Monchique you will see a sign for Foia, take the road uphill to Foia and you will reach the highest point in the Algarve with magnificent views of the surrounding countryside. Try lunch at one of the chicken restaurants at the side of the road. Traditional Portuguese Chicken Piri Piri is recommended.
Portimao
A busy town with an attractive plaza on the river estuary. Find the fish restaurants just before the bridge and indulge yourself in some of the freshest sardines you have ever tasted at very reasonable prices.
Sagres
The town which is associated with "Henry the Navigator", Portugal's famous explorer, whose school of navigation was situated in the Sagres fort.
Tavira
One of the most beautiful towns in the Algarve which held the status of capital during the Moors occupation. Delightful architecture, and an excellent view over the town and river from the walls of the now restored Moorish castle.
